Much has been written about the mountains of cash and valuable assets that will be transferred from Baby Boomers to their children. The New York Times noted in mid-2023 that of the 73 million Baby Boomers, the youngest are turning 60 and the oldest are nearing 80. The coming inter-generational transfer of assets is expected to dwarf anything seen in the past.
Just how big? There will be $84 trillion in wealth transfers from 2022 to 2045, according to Cerulli Associates, a research and consulting firm focused on the financial services industry. Knight Frank, a global real estate consulting firm, estimates $90 trillion will pass from Baby Boomers and the silent generation over the next 20 years.
